Youth are the future of Zimbabwe

By Herbert Mupanduki

As his Excellence President R. G Mugabe once said the youth as the future of our country, have an important part to play in shaping our country’s economic revolution.

In line with this perhaps the thoughts expressed by Zimbabwe’s most prestigious democratic president who himself was a formidable leader in his youth meant that, a country’s future is in the hands of the youth if only they have access to fully participate in building their country’s economy.

Africa Youth Day is celebrated on the 1st of November every year. This is a day dedicated to youth from all corners of the continent of Africa. The purpose of this annual commemoration is to promote an increased recognition of youth as key agents for social change and economic growth in all aspects of the African society.

It is an unquestionable truth that the youth are the souls of Africa’s economy and underlying foundation of society. For that reason, there is a great need to increase awareness, participation, commitment and investment in the youth. Promotion of youth roles will therefore have the significance of shaping different societies.

As part of commemorating Africa Youth Day, Zimbabwe Youth Council in partnership with the Ministry of Youth Indigenization and Economic Empowerment will be hosting some events on the 1st of November in Harare. For a successful day youth should show up in their numbers as they will be a lot of activities taking place and also some of our government officials gracing this wonderful day.

It is high time that the youth prove themselves that they are eager and ready to work with government policies such as the quota system and the command agriculture so as to develop our country’s economy, thereby ensuring poverty eradication and end of high unemployment rates. Moreover to show their support to the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (ZimAsset).

Zimbabwe Youth Council’s strong belief is that the youth are seeds which need to be watered in order for them to flourish and blossom, most beautifully and uniquely. They also believe in the enhancement and grooming of these young ones’ potential in order to unleash greatness in them. The Ministry of Youth Indigenization and Economic Empowerment together with the Zimbabwe Youth council will continue to energetically and enthusiastically push forward relentlessly in the pursuit of greatness out of the young people of our country.
